Jhor van der Horst is a choreographer and visual artist working with improvised movement and container structures. He is interested in the distance between art and life, and how the felt/structural/potential quality of this distance changes depending on context and discipline.

At age 10, van der Horst’s formal dance training began at the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Two years later, he started studying UZAZU (breath&movement based energy work practice) with Dylan Newcomb. At age 13, upon completion of the certification process, he co-facilitated a meditation group in his home town. In secondary school, this focus on “transformation” shifted to “entertainment,” when he joined the rock band White Stork as lead singer. Attending Princeton allowed for more confusion, as he started studying Theater and Visual Art. This confusion shifted his focus to consent and citation practices.

In a college context, Jhor van der Horst has worked with Susan Marshall, Miguel Gutierrez, Rebecca Lazier, Pavel Zustiak, Martha Friedman, Joe Scanlan, Brian Herrera, Jane Cox, Alexandra Damiani, Kimberly Bartosik, Zvi Gotheiner, Raja Feather Kelly, Fia Backström, Jess Rowland, Sharifa Ali, and Aaron Landsman, among others.
